Advertising

Advertising has gain a big spot in today economic in such a way that nobody can talk about economy without mentioning it. It constitute a huge part of the economy and companies are spending a big amount of money in that field. Here in the united states since we talking about united states, advertising reflect the American society. In fact we all know that we living in a society well structure, where people are classify in a very specific way. White don't have the same statue than black and back don't have the same statue than Spanish and vice versa. The same thing also is apply to gender in fact if someone look at gender role in a very careful way in America, a white man is more powerful than a white women and a white women is more powerful than a black man and Spanish man. I am trying to point out those fact because later on it will be very helpful to understand why there is so many sexism, so many power, and racism in the advertising world. We have to know that advertising goes always with society. The main purpose of advertising is to target society so that they can be aware of your product and eventually buy it. that is the only main goal for the use of advertising. so targeting your market is very important for any corporation who want to sell his product and make profit in today economy. In the case like the US society, advertising most of the time goes with what the society dictate it to do in fact most of time when company target they generally directed toward the most powerful people ,those who have the money to buy their products. So that is why you see in most ad, white people in general because that is the audience that the ad is targeting. I am not saying that you will never see black or Spanish advertising not at all . All i am saying is that most of the time it is white people and that goes always in the way the society is build. Social inequality is also being reflected in advertising as well.

If we take the gender issue too, we can easily see that women are less powerful than man and not only that they are most of the time objectify. It s a sad situation that women are in but it seems like that they are buying that . In most add, women are almost naked , very tall and slim and it is generally a white one. Those add unfortunately reflect what the society want a woman to look like. The point made in killing me softly goes with what i already point out .In fact in killing me softly most of the adds show women who are objectify , they are view as object who belong to men and are there to please them nothing else. So if you an object you no longer a human being , you been dehumanized in somehow. The fact that women are objectify is what encourage violence, rape and all those bad things against them in society. Let us face it, it will be very hard to have feeling and respect toward an object . So all these bad attitude toward them is the fact that they been objectify in society and they seem to accept that statue unfortunately. Indefinitely think that woman deserve more and should be consider more because they are the bases of any society . The image they are being given is not the exact one . that need to change but change will has to do with their strong participation and the desire to want change too. So they need to step up and refuse to be seen as object by refusing to participate on those adds. the image that rely caught my eyes in killing us softly is the one of Ana Carolina Reston who died of anorexia . she wanted to be thin and was so into what people were dictated her to be he end up dying . Those are things that people should ovoid and should not fall into .

In my view advertising should target society but not to harm society. people also should be aware and more smart about what they are being shown in advertising and select what is good for them .Like the author of killing me softly already said it being perfect is impossible in life and the fact that you want to aspire for perfection will ruin your like forever and you will end up dying . People need to be very smart about those add and found ways to deal with them without harm.

Unfortunately it is not only women who are being harm in those adds, men also are being victim of it as well . It is kind of different for men but the outcome is still the same . Power which is a big issue in the man case is being reflected in those add in such a way that those men who are not strong or don't have muscle are obliged to go to the gyms everyday and are drinking protein in order to fit in . It's a very sad situation but that is the reality of the world we are living in. So since we cannot escape those add effects because we are part of the society, we need to be very careful not to be too much influence by them. Advertising will always be part of our society and will will continue to grow more and more every day .
